Fender was very ingenious of how they went about trimming this guitar to bring the cost down. The most important one of course is the thin finish. The lacquer on top of the paint is very thin and highly susceptible to scratches and dents if not treated with care.

The pickups are regular American single coils and not hum canceling. The tremolo bridge is the regular 6 screws design that come with a lot of Strats and not the more modern 2 point pivot that come in the American Standard. But take notice that the material of the bridge is of better quality than the one installed in the Mexican made.

Like the Highway One, the finish of this electric guitar is a very thin satin lacquer, but in my opinion this instrument is a little stronger than the Fender Highway One when it comes to scratches and dents. The lack of maple is a feature that makes this electric guitar cheaper than normal.

Back when this guitar was called the Vintage Mahogany it used to come in a hard shell case, Gibson now ships it in a deluxe gig bag like the Fender Highway One.

Fender Deluxe Player Stratocaster Review

The Deluxe Player Stratocaster is one of their most upgraded guitars. It comes with noiseless pickups like some of the higher priced American models. And it has a switch to add 2 more pickup options. The finish is beautiful with gold hardware and vintage style tuners.

The 12'' radius neck has medium jumbo frets, I can't help but notice that this guitar seems very much influenced by the Stevie Ray Vaughn signature. With guitars so close like this one and the Highway One this difference is best experienced than explained with words. But with a good set up the Deluxe Player Stratocaster is fantastic.
